Hi! I'm Lisa, and I'm putting together helpful blogs that introduce you to some of my favorite home decor ideas. There's something for everyone, so enjoy!
Welcome to Sugar Coated Style
So many times I have been contacted by my web site enthusiasts interested in knowing what is available in different and unusual wall decor. They want some information on wall decor that will set them apart from the usual boring "Same old, same old."
They also say that they would like to decorate their walls in a way that would express themselves as individuals who don't necessarily follow the crowd. They ask for my suggestions of what I believe to be tastefully and uncommonly artful wall decor.
For some time I researched their need and after careful study, I have come up with some suggestions that just might help them out. Keep in mind that when it comes to wall decor, there are unlimited directions that one could pursue.
Because I have limited space here on this page, I will give some examples of what I believe to be unusual wall decorations. From there I hope to get the imaginations of those of you who are looking for this information, a sort of kick start to your own exploration of unexpected wall decor.
So I started out by locating Metal Wall Art and Sculptures. These are fascinating creations that will give the room a three dimensional artful appeal. There is something here that is sure to please anyone who is looking for different.
The first metal art I will go over with you is Laser Cut Metal Wall Art. From pieces sculpted into the shapes of suns, animals such as horses, deer, dolphins in tropical scenes, cowboy boots and hat, elk in forest scenes, butterfly and flowers, Azaleas with hummingbird and so much more laser cut metal wall art. You just have to go online to see for yourself how different and beautiful this art truly is.
Staying in metal wall art, the next pieces I found are called steel image wall art. This particular art form is produced from medium gauge steel. The image is then laser cut and formed into art. The steel is then hand brushed to a rich textured finish. The unique colors available are from a process called Kaleidikolor. The final process is powder coating to assure durability for both inside and outside wall hanging applications.
I found a variety of different topics made into Kaleidikolor art forms. Some of these topics included gecko metal art, different forms of sun and moon metal art, a variety of different trees such as Aspen and Aspen branches of different sizes, Hummingbird metal art, North American animals of the wilderness and so much more.
I don't have enough space here to provide you with all that is offered in this Kaleidikolor art. You'll have to go online and see for yourself all the magnificent metal Kaleidikolor art offered to truly appreciate this art form. There are literally hundreds of pieces in different topics to choose from.
Wall Planters are another form of wall art that will enhance the atmosphere of a room. These beautifully crafted plant holding devices are a welcome addition to the total presentation, giving the room in which they are displayed an elegant touch of harmony only nature's plant life can provide.
Most of your wall planters are made of Iron. Many of these iron wall planters are constructed of iron rods bent into artful shapes or crisscrossed and welded together to form wall planters of exquisite style. Some of this metal artwork has metal framework while others do not.
Other forms of metal wall planters have artfully curvaceous wall mounted hanging brackets with metal mesh baskets hung by artful chains. After you have securely anchored the bracket to the wall, all you have to do is put a plant into the hanging basket and enjoy the heavenly scent of fresh flowers in bloom.
Staying with metal wall planters, let's explore one more version. This version is called the Wall Mounted Planting Bowl. This is different from what I have written about so far.
These beautiful wall mounted planting bowls are cast iron molds. All these wall mounted planting bowls use cultural period designs and castings that once graced Europe's cities, towns and estates. The handcrafted detail of these wall mounted planting bowls brings out the extremely artful display of a bygone era.
For a more rustic look you can go with a wooden three shelf wall plant holder. This shelf wall plant holder has the look of a picket fence. If you have rooms in your home with a country or rural theme, then this shelf wall plant holder will fit in quite well.
My last example of is often overlooked, but should never be ignored. This wall mounted art gives you a world of possibilities.
Let me ask you, "When was the last time you switched on or switched off a light in a room of your home? Did you notice something different on the wall? Did you have a feeling that something magical happened every time you used the light switch on the wall?"

Fresh flowers can lend a lease of life to just about any place. Your home which is your special place deserves to be decorated with fresh flowers. Often we tend to use fresh slower arrangements only on the dining table. However, there are many other places in your home that can be decorated with fresh flowers.
The living room could do with some revving up with fresh flowers. Select a beautiful vase and put in fresh flowers which ever ones you like, it could be a bunch of the same flowers or a combination of different flowers and put it in the corner or any mantle in your living room. Another good idea could be to create a float with the flowers by placing them in a crystal bowl full of water. This could be further enhanced for some occasions by lighting floating candles in the bowl along with the flowers.
This bowl can be placed anywhere in your living room on the center table, or in your bed room in the corner and it will look simple and beautiful. The kitchen too deserves to be remembered. Placing a vase with flowers might not be exactly the best idea in for the kitchen. What you can do here is on a windowsill put potted plants like sun loving primroses and African violets etc. The best part about putting flowering plants in the kitchen is that you can use just about anything to serve as a pot. This could be old tea pots or clay pots etc.
Now in the dining room of course the dining table is one obvious place to put flowers. Instead of the simple arrangement in the center of the table, you can go in for a slightly more elaborate arrangement. This could be done by combining flowers of different varieties and also use some dried grass decoration along with them.
Fresh flowers are believed to be therapeutic and definitely are more attractive than artificial ones. Of course the artificial ones too are required in places where changing flowers regularly is not possible. However, this is not the case at home where we don't need to make too efforts to find fresh flowers.
Another place to put flowers is your own bedroom. This is the sanctum of your home and indeed a very private space. This place deserves your favorite flower and that too generously. Of course what you can do is place them on the mantle, on the bed side table, on your reading desk if you have any in the room etc.
Home accessories are becoming an integral part of creating an appealing and welcoming home. Taking pride in caring for the interior of ones home is becoming essential. Most people are finding that it is becoming more fashionable to use mirrors in their design schemes. However, it is not always easy for people to know exactly what needs to be done to achieve the look that you are hoping for. Mirrors are never easy accessories to use because the choices it all depend on many factors.
In order for you to create your ideal decor with mirrors you need to set out a proper and well established plan. The only way to do that is to actually know the space you are working with. This will involve you making those crucial house measurements and making a drawing of your space. This is the way most, if not all, interior designers work. It is ideal to keep in mind that less is always more. There is no need to go into minimalist design, it is just important to note that space is provided less clutter in the room. The next step is to work out your color scheme.
The reason why color comes after determination of space is so that you will be able to determine which type of furniture you want to have. In this you will also be able to decide on the shapes and frames that your mirrors should have.
After color comes the all important role of the mirrors. You will need to decide what role your mirrors will play in the room. Will they be for illuminating more light, or will they come in handy for creating the illusion of more space? The sole reason for this analysis is so that you will be able to easily know where to place your mirrors.
Mirrors that are used for light will always be more directly at an angle from a window and those that are used to create more space are placed in corners to "stretch" the room that they occupy. Also, the style of the mirror is important. This helps give out a message of what you are looking for in terms of style for the entire space.
If your aim is to attack the more simple yet attractive side of mirrors, then be assured that your decor needs will be catered to. Mirrors with wooden frames or even bronze frames are readily available. The beauty of it is that if you wish to spend more on your mirror then you will be able to pursue individuals who can make you a personalized bathroom mirror frame and mirror design. It is clear that contemporary mirrors need not conform to traditional shapes. Therefore, if you are feeling a bit adventurous, then you should surely look into the options of mirrors and how the role they play in design schemes.
Home Decor is another term for interior designing and is usually concerned with anything that constitutes a space - this could include walls, windows, doors, finishes, textures, light, furnishings and furniture. A pleasing, functional surrounding is created by the magic wand of a home decor expert by utilising these elements in a proper fashion. Home Decor not only reflects a person's psychology but also brings to the forefront his/ her artistic or non-artistic side and not to undermine, in many cases a wild and vivid imagination. Home Decor is found all over the place and it cannot be confined solely to homes and flats. Hotels, corporate spaces, schools, hospitals, private residences, shopping malls, restaurants, theaters, and even airport terminals require a proper, suitable decor. So Home Decor as a term constitutes many elements. In today's world, home decor is a significant term and it is taken very seriously.Nowadays many students aspire to be succesful interior designers and look for fame and money..A home decor expert must be attuned to architectural detailing including floor plans, home renovations, and construction codes. Often, these experts are architects themselves, gifted with the fine sense of balance and sobriety, as opposed to certain lesser mortals.
Often, while decorating, people are clueless as to what to do with this space. And decorating a home can be quite a chore. And the concept of Home Decor can be quite dicey. Professionals typically have their home decor tips and tricks, but often hiring a designer can burn a hole in your pocket. Without having a home decor plan in advance, for the bedroom or the living room or the dining room or the den or the kid's room, its bound to be a difficult affair. One has to know what he or she actually wants, what he or she needs to purchase, and the suitability of home decor. One has to consider the budget and the space before impulsively buying and decorating.
Few people are born with talent. They can easily go beyond the fundamentals of home decor. They can blend in perfectly, the colours, furnishings and decor items to transform a mere house into a cozy home. Certain ideas have to keep in mind before staring with the decorating. Firstly, a particular plan has to be maintained for each room. It is to be remembered that each room has a goal, a purpose. Also, the size of the room matters as does the understanding of use of neutrals and colors. Choosing a focal point is also rather important the area that arrests your attention immediately and it is around that area that the home decor is built upon.
Home Decor items are an important aspect, definitely, and a stunning rug or an artwork might just constitute the focal point of the room. Wholesale Home Decor items are similarly very important. However all collectibles should not be cluttered around the house. Collections should be centralized in one part of the room, so that it can mingle with the home decor and enhance the beauty of the room.
There are various home decor styles:
French inspired Home decor Art deco style home decor Asian Style French Country style Country Farmhouse Post modern home decor Transitional style home decor Patriotic Decor
And many morewhoa! That's an amazing range to choose from!
Of course glorious home decor items can be discovered now at wholesale pricesand there also one is spoilt for choices. Home decor is truly reflective of ones personal style. A little imagination can create wonders. From the interior designers with their fancy degrees waiting for a call to the little homemaker with big dreamseveryone can create a niche.
If you have had the same décor in your home for years and are ready for a change but don't have the financial resources for a complete redo, you can still revitalize your room with a few quick fixes. Whether you only have a few minutes or a few days to do the job, there are small quick changes that can be made to upgrade your look.
The first step is to assess what changes you want to make, whether it is replacing a fireplace mantel, painting a few walls, arranging potted plants or changing chairs or pillows. Your list will give you a starting point. Small changes can have the greatest impact. Creating a photo gallery with your vintage picture frames may be all that is necessary to change the feel of your room. Here are a few suggestions for livening up your living space.
Paint for a Quick Fix
Nothing changes a room faster than a fresh coat of paint. Liven up your room by painting your walls and ceiling different hues in the same color family. Paint allows you to transform your room into a formal, dramatic or informal, fun space. The right color combination will brighten everything in the room.
If you have a collection, china or collectibles, that you want to have stand out or you just want an eye-popping contrast color, consider painting one wall a bright or dark shade, like a rich red tone. You will have an accent wall that adds interest and drama to your room. If you don't want to paint an entire wall or room, think about just painting an accent color around your windows or doorframe for contrast.
If you don't have the budget to replace your furniture, consider reupholstering to freshen it up. If that is still too much for your budget, furniture covers are available for just about any size sofa or chair. Select your fabric in a neutral shade that won't go out of style quickly. Add color to your room with pillows and throws that can easily be changed when you want a different accent color. You can even change the color seasonally - pale colors for spring and summer and darker tones for fall and winter.
Revive those flea market finds with a coat of paint or fresh fabric that can be attached with a staple gun. If you want a casual look to your room, wicker furniture can be painted any color in a glossy or matte finish to blend, contrast or complement your décor.
Accessories can make or break a room. Finding the perfect balance is key to having a room that is comfortable and not cluttered. If your room is dark or cramped, consider strategically placing mirrors to reflect the light. You can use small accessories with mirrored finishes or hang several framed mirrors on a wall.
You can remove clutter from your room by accessorizing with decorative baskets or boxes. Fill them with important files, stationery or art supplies and put them on shelves as part of your decor.
Whether you display your accessories on shelves or hang artwork or photographs in artsy picture frames on your wall, there are a few things to remember. It is recommended by professional decorators to use odd numbered items. A series of odd number modern picture frames can make a creative display when artfully arranged on your wall. Remember not to crowd items displayed on shelves. You want to enjoy each one individually, but don't forget the artistic impact of grouping your collectibles. If you have a large collection, instead of displaying them all at one time consider rotating pieces from time to time for a different look.
Many manufacturers of window shutters who make claims that they build custom shutters are actually not offering custom shutters at all but are instead selling pre-built stock shutters that have been customized by cutting them down and hinging them together to make a certain size. This is not the definition of custom made and will give you the horrible end result of shutters that do dot fit your windows as they should. In addition to the shutters not fitting properly they may also have been structurally compromised by this cutting down process that some shutter makers employ.
Another type of shutter that nearly always results in a poor fit and parts that do not have the proper proportions to your windows are synthetic shutters. Because these types of shutters usually employ the use of stiles that are pre-made as well as pre-made rails and louvers which are then cut down to size to make the production process faster.
If you are looking for true custom shutters you should investigate the companies you are considering to be sure of the quality of their craftsmanship. Many of the companies that claim they build custom shutters produce shutters you wouldn't put up on a doghouse much less your own home. If you take the time to do a little research it will save you money and embarrassment.
True custom made shutters are manufactured individually for each window and are made from the same wood with all of the stiles and rails matching each other all through your entire home. There are few companies out there who truly do this. For the best fit you will want someone who comes out and measures each individual window.
If you truly care about having the best looking shutters possible you need to stay away from companies that sell the customized variety that we mentioned earlier and stick to the companies that do things the hard way and actually come out and measure and make the shutters specifically for each window and each home. These craftsmen are few and far between but well worth the effort to find them.
In return for your patience and the extra investment that you will have to make for the custom made shutters you will be rewarded with quality custom made shutters that will fit your windows perfectly and appear to have been built with the building of the house. After all they will be made only for your house and your windows and no one else's.
